The Englewood Water District in Southwest Florida installed their
first vacuum system in 1996. The V-1 project served 1500
customers. Since then, EWD has installed 5 more vacuum systems;
bring the total number of customers served by vacuum to 8,000.
Vacuum collection proved to be about 25% less in capital cost
compared to gravity sewer. District officials have reported
that the O&M costs are in line with those projected and
have gone as far as to say they prefer vacuum systems over
gravity systems.
When all nine phases are completed, Englewood will have one of
the largest vacuum sewer systems in the world, with 7 vacuum
stations and 3,000 vacuum valves serving more than 10,000 customers. |
