This large AIRVAC vacuum sewer project is located on the west
coast of Washington State. Ocean Shores is a 6 mile
long by 2 mile wide peninsula with the Pacific Ocean to the
west and Grays Harbor on the east. The community also
has numerous lakes and canals (see photo). Previously
on septic tanks, the city completed installation of a vacuum
sewer system and new wastewater treatment plant in 1999.
The first phase of this project was constructed in 1994 -
the second phase in 1996. Now with the final phases completed,
there are 7 vacuum stations with 96 miles (154 km) of vacuum
sewer lines and 5,400 valve pit packages installed to serve
over 10,000 lots.
Vacuum Station 7 (see photo) is the largest and is designed to
serve 3,500 ERU (Equivalent Residential Units). |
